Communists acknowledge the necessity of censoring harmful ideas and effectively communicate their rationale. Meanwhile, liberals criticize communists for such practices while simultaneously advocating for the suppression of dissenting views. This exposes their hypocritical stance on free speech and open dialogue.

On the various posts in this current flood of “Communists should leave the communist instance for my own comfort” nonsense, even the anti-.ml crowd can’t provide good examples of how anyone who looks at them funny gets banned. Nobody has modlog receipts and almost every example THEY provide of communists oppressing them or whatever is THEM saying dumb nothings like “I can’t hear you over Tienanmen Square” or cussing up a storm while the .ml person is like “Here’s a book about XYZ”

I’m sure people have been perhaps hastily moderated on .ml, but probably not any more than any other instance, and if so they aren’t the ones rallying to de-ML .ml.

I think a lot of this is basically culture shock of people realizing that their views aren’t dominant on the platform and having their deeply held biases questioned.

Not only that, but Reddit refugees too idealistic for Reddit, but without niche interests guiding them to a niche instance, plus a desire to not even be federated with Marxist instances.

So I should be perfectly safe to mention any awful shit that allegedly leftist states did… right?

No possibility this comment gets removed for saying leftist states can also fuck up, or implying any of them are only allegedly leftist.

I never see this “Lenin is my daddy cull the herd uWu” nonsense y’all can’t stfu about, but I sure can’t escape the sea of “I dIsAgReE, sEe YoU oN tEh BaN lIsT!”

Which quite frankly I think SHOULD net a ban, this disingenuous “oh sure you can talk about redistributing wealth but I mention murder being bad AND IM BANNED DURR” bullshit is tiring.

Here’s that thing you think doesn’t exist. Straight-up ‘the Soviet Union did nothing wrong and the holodomor didn’t happen.’ With people cheering him on. In an anarchist community.

Re-reading it now, he also insists the USSR saved Poland… y’know… after they split it in half. If people want to celebrate the Soviets’ role in defeating Hitler, by all means shout it from the rooftops, but nobody got out of World War 2 completely innocent.

I just blocked that guy instead of getting into it - even though I apparently fucking adore getting into it - specifically because of past moderation on this instance. I will bicker and have it out with people for days, when I feel a topic is important, and continue having it out with the mods themselves if they want to intervene, and even I have simply written off most of this instance as an exclusion zone. Too many broadly-agreeable spaces are policed to enforce very specific opinions about really fucked-up topics.

You are mocking people’s honest experiences of this instance. Its reputation is not some conspiracy. New users incidentally mention obvious problems with certain geopolitically important countries, get their comments erased or maybe eat a ban, and are told by old users - ‘yeah, that’ll happen.’

        It’s a broken stair.

I don’t know if you linked the wrong post or what cause I see one person making lengthy arguments and offering sources while the other makes dinky diversions. Not a great argument on your behalf.

You are mocking peoples honest experiences of this instance

Am I? Because if you’re (or whoever is) here arguing about being banned from .ml, you’re notably not banned from .ml, and if im reading sombodys “This comment will be removed” comment, it by definition hasnt been removed. 🤷

you’re notably not banned from .ml

Strawman. Not all bans are permanent, not all bans are global.

And ‘I never see what you’re talking about’ / ‘it can’t be what you’re talking about if I can see it’ is a catch-22.

Long means correct, apparently. Nevermind what’s being said.

Considering the counter argument was “Fuck you you’re wrong,” I’m going to go ahead and side with the person who actually makes a coherent point. Any point at all, really. “I CAN’T HEAR YOU LULZ” doesn’t count.

Not all bans are permanent, not all bans are global. Sure, but if you were constantly getting temp bans, it’d be preettttyyyy easy to show some receipts, if it were true and not just a rallying cry for some butthurt capitalist stans.

I get it buddy. You don’t like leftists, so anything leftist is bad. Righties love screaming at me about the modlog, so allow me to turn it on you - If you stay getting banned, show us. Show us you getting banned and all your comments being removed for disagreeing. Should be easy since supposedly anybody left of Biden isn’t allowed to exist on .ml, right?

edit: And pre-empting any posturing about ‘well I made up a challenge and it went unanswered,’ you can check the modlog. Check mine. You don’t need me to hold your hand for it. See where one of your mods misspelled “orientalism” because someone dared call China a dictatorship. I don’t see any point pressing the issue with you when your hot take on counterfactual nonsense is ‘but where’s the detailed disproof? the Gish gallop is correct by default!’

I am being genuine when I say that this perception you have is one of two things- either you are indeed looking at bad Marxists, which is not what I have experienced on Lemmy, or you are referring back to posts that were being intellectually dishonest or violating basic civility rules, so were deleted.

That’s just my experience as a relatively new user

I mean, the theory is what people are supposed to be putting into practice.

I feel like your response is a bit combative and is not actually engaging with what I am trying to say, and it makes sense at the end of this that you have a perception that you’re getting moderated… because you are being an asshole.

edit: also, even in my comment I said that they’d be bad Marxists IF THEY DIDN’T practice the theory. I gave that to you, and you steamrolled right past it.

Any Leftist that’s done any real organizing has likely worked with Anarchists. Those guys hate all states, and aren’t afraid to tell your classic Marxists about how some of those very left states did them realllllly bad. I don’t think any leftist whos operating in good faith has a problem with real critisizm. I think they have problems with state department propaganda lines that they have to hear and refute like every time they try to talk about any kind of Leftism.

Especially since those lines are the some of the most detracting arguements there are (probably on purpose) so most times it does nothing but obfuscate the original point and move the topic of discussion away from that point.

I’m confused. You asked if you would be fine to criticize the left here without getting banned and I replied to that comment answering, and now you’re telling me that wasn’t the subject? Why do you assume I was only talking about the users?

Because the admins and several major mods have a history of censoring disagreement. Especially when it’s criticism of “those very left states.” Often just for saying those states are left… or aren’t.

Blocked lemmy.world after this nonsense, I was already sick of how closely that instance mirrored reddit; including the witch hunting and moderation double-standards (banning piracy and allowing floods of corporate capitalist news propaganda spam is fine, but deleting misinformation and whitewashing of US history is moderator overreach). Had a few communities there I liked, but I can live without them.

That’s really the kicker for me with those people. The louder they shriek about being moderated for outright dickish behavior, the faster they’d ban you on their own turf for politely sharing a source that counters their narrative.

I’ve agreed with you basically since the beginning of my lemmy experience about .world. I think that’s just where most Reddit refugees landed (including myself initially) so that’s why they have such a high concentration of people wanting this Reddit-adjacent neolib singular authority and want so strongly to defederate from anything remotely left of Biden -

Or even go as far as the post I assume OP is based off of and screech about free speech by arguing how the MLs who BUILT LEMMY should abandon their .ML domain to make the instance less ML. Cause that’s how free speech works. >.>
