I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve also been to Italy, specifically to Napoli, and just the dough alone is phenomenal, something between pancake and bread. Then the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella on top with the fresh basil leaves for the something extra - perfect balance, heaven in my mouth!

I’ve also been to the US (west coast, Portland) and Jebus, that was terrible. First they don’t give you a pizza but a slice of pizza, then it’s reheated because they make a lot of it and can’t sell it fresh. The toppings is dry ham and tasteless cheese, a ton of cheese, but just flavorless cheese. I tried in a couple of places there with practically the same result. Thanks, but no thanks.

The Swedish pizza is probably what I would say is what you’re talking about, tons of toppings and decent dough.

I feel it really depends on the country you work with. Back in Sweden it was such a sausage fest. But since I started working with people from Russia, Ukraine and especially China it changed significantly. OK top management is still full of dudes, but middle management and the people who do the implementation is a good mix. About 40℅ women even in positions of power. Korea seems to be somewhere in the middle.

I disagree. I like cooking and since I’m working from home I can make something nice and fast at home for lunch. But I probably would have agreed back then when I worked at the office.

It’s probably 15 years ago I used XMPP the last time. Back then there were many compatibility problems between the apps and especially on the mobile phone with push notifications, etc. There were problems sending media and VOIP calls were non existent outside of the Google clients.

My guess is that some of those things improved but I have not heard anyone in my circles using it, especially since Matrix became a bit more popular, most of the Open Source projects on IRC also moved to Matrix.

I think Matrix is the way to go because you can host your own server and be completely self hosting without a 3rd party involved.

But there are still if, while, function definitions, etc. in scripting languages. It doesn’t seem to me that different than even programming in assembler. In Assembler you also call subroutines, etc. and in every other language you also call functions from libraries.

I never did dual boot. The first time moving from windows 2000 to Linux, my hard drive was only 2 GB and I couldn’t fit both of the OS:es on it, so I nuked the windows one.

I did this with my google maps history until I realized that google just marks it as deleted so I am the only one not having access to this data, but google still collects and uses it, it just doesn’t show it to me.

You can run Lemmy or PieFed (which also has build in polls) non federated as a private instance, this way the content will not be sent to other instances and it’s basically a forum. You can also disable open signups and only add users manually.

But then you still need to do something about anonymous access, because both just show the content to people who are not signed in, so you would need to put it behind some extra login or so.

That’s the main reason my software is in the AUR but nowhere else. I tried to make a deb package and failed so many times so I just gave up.

As far as I know you can’t host your own signal server which connects to their servers.

I’m using Signal with the rest of the family and most friends.

What I like about Matrix so much is that it can be run fully on your own infrastructure, even the TURN server for VOIP, and you can build the clients from source yourself too.

But I agree that it’s quite difficult to use. And until now only my dad and my spouse use it with me because they love me and trust me. But they both always have problems with their clients. It randomly logs out and then they have to login with the password and with the encryption key again. For a long time calling didn’t work because I misconfigured the server. Then videos were for the longest time uploaded in full size and anything longer than a few seconds would be rejected. The whole spaces thing is implemented very weirdly so it confuses them. And then the threads are even worse so we can’t use them because nobody gets how to do it.
