There isn’t an ISO for Linux Mint with Xfce.
What I would try:

• Boot the normal ISO
• open a terminal instead of starting the installation
• enter sudo live-installer-expert-mode

It should boot the Debian expert installer, which lets you choose what DE you want to install. I haven’t tested this on LMDE, though.

Otherwise, install LMDE normally. Then do sudo apt install xfce4 and sudo apt purge cinnamon* muffin* nemo*.

Don’t use FreeBSD on a notebook.
Unless you can live without energy management, suspend, bluetooth, function keys and usable wifi speeds out of the box.

I’m curious what Ubuntu’s snap-only system is going to be like. AFAIK they push snaps over flatpaks because flatpaks aren’t suited to using them for the base system utilities while snaps are.

My ideal Linux system would consist of only the kernel, systemd, an immutable root file system, and flatpaks.

If only the partitions, partition table or file system are corrupt, you can dd it to a different drive and either re-write the metadata if you know what it was or use software to recognize the start- and endpoints of the file types that are stored on it and recreate them with free tools. But you’ll lose all file names and the folder structure.

I’m guessing the service wants to edit something it can’t edit on Silverblue. So the software is simply incompatible with your OS (as stated in the documentation)

Any program with an install script makes assumptions about your system, if it doesn’t work it just isn’t compatible.
Either modify the script, package the software for your distro or find out if someone else has done it.
My first instinct would be to look if it’s in the AUR and install it inside an Arch Toolbox.
