  • I don’t care what a plant thinks of me; it won’t change the dynamic that I’m motivated and it’s prey.

My point is that plants “think” but do so differently than meat bags. Plant cognition is more like a series of low level chemical reactions that look like thinking, but so does brain chemical squirts if we look close enough. So plants may actually be thinking using mechanisms which don’t rely on complex brain architecture because it has another method of processing that thought. Probably across the whole structure but the process is really inefficient so it takes a long time to finish compute.

Like if a super computer made the judgement of a calculator - they are both crunching numbers but there is an order of magnitude difference in how fast the answer is found. Maybe a plant has low bus speeds and crappy compute limited to simple threaded operations.

  • They have the knowledge and are doing something about it. If other plants can send out this chemical by observing it themselves, that sounds like a reaction from a communication. It may not be cognition like we expect but it is behaving like cognition would. Hard to argue that plants don’t know or care of their friends start dying.

  • And tokens poured forth like mana from heaven, bringing games and tickets to the children, and there was bliss.

Music came down from on high and a band formed from unlikely friends. Their songs filled the room with pizza and loud children.

And in the middle of the malestrom, the music would start and together they cried out in terrible unison, “chucky. Chucky. CHUCKY.”

  • This movie is wild. It starts off with a boy and his talking dog like an old live action Disney movie. But it gets real dark, real fast until Topeka, at which point it turns the whole concept around and the rapist is now being raped, which seems super under examined because of the sudden revolution subplot. Again, it’s a wild ride and not for everyone, but I’m glad I saw it.

  • This is a side effect of YouTube content creation practices where a video will have an overview of the plot or story to pad out the run time or article. Often, because game journalism is basically long distance abusive relationships between the writer and the game publisher, the review is too mild to contain actual opinions and will draw on comparisons to other games instead of forming genuine critiques and admiration.

The end result is a generation of games and movies where the review is unable to provide enough genuine content to fill 10 minutes or 3 pages, so they instead spoil the game while riffing on very specific foibles. They don’t know how to talk critically about mechanics or story or design.
