I love genuine questions and people putting in the effort to love and understand each other better. If you come at me just wanting to argue I’m going to troll you back. FAFO.

  • It’s mostly me cussing out the government for not paying me or my coworkers enough to really provide good mental health care and weird historical and multicultural funeral traditions. Sometimes there’s some overlap though, like in some parts of the world its customary to hire strippers for funerals.

  • A shocking number of women are just absolute fucking freaks once you remove the consequences of being a freak, namely both intentional and unintentional physical injury, but also social consequences and unwanted pregnancy. Because I’m so open about this kind of thing I actually get a lot of women asking for advice on stuff like anal or restraints. Those women are out there, and dare I say even common, they just have to feel safe enough to let that shit out. When you make sure it’s completely her choice and she knows you’ll do everything in your power to make sure it doesn’t hurt and she’ll have the utmost privacy and won’t be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy you might be shocked what many women will even ask to do.

TL;DR: all the weird dudes throughout history just running hogwild with rampant control / domination fetishes primarily distributed through religious extremism ruined sex for the rest of you. I was raised by fundies and a buuunch of them are hiding some pretty wild kinks under all that Bible thumping. The dude who was advocating for mutilating baby penises and made most of his money selling breakfast cereal also invented a special chair for blasting several gallons of yogurt up your butt over the course of just a few minutes, and somehow all in the name of sexual purity.

As someone into this, you have to find men who are respectful enough to stop if things are moving too fast or you’re not lubed up enough yet, and that’s difficult for a bunch of different but interrelated reasons, one of them just being that finding multiple trustworthy people is just statistically less likely than finding one trustworthy person even before you factor in gender dynamics.

I’ve noticed even the most sexually respectful men have at least a tiny pain kink, even if it’s just a little bit of an “oof” or squeak from going in too hard or fast because it makes them feel like their dick is bigger. 90% of the time that’s not really a problem (and sometimes you really do just want to get fucking pounded and feel that stretch so it works out for everybody) but a first DP really needs to be taken slow. And that’s even just from a logistics standpoint and even if you’ve practiced with dildos because you can put a dildo at any angle you damn well please but a dick is attached to a wholeass person that has their own comfort needs including what angles can be held and for how long.

So you need to find men you trust enough to not get carried away and be constantly checking in even nonverbally that your body is relaxed and you’re not wincing or moaning in the wrong way despite the fact that they’re doing this absolutely wild and taboo act and it’s hard to find one guy like that, and generally men that care that much about your wellbeing are also the men who are staying around for a long-term relationship, and THOSE men are almost to a man monogamous. So you can almost definitely find one guy that’s willing to go slow enough for anal to be enjoyable, or to insert a dildo into your vagina or anus while also fucking you but the guys who are respectful enough for that to actually be enjoyable are rarely the ones who want to share. Last time I was even in a threeway it was the dude that wound up getting doubled so like.

  • I just finished my first week at a religious organization and my two thoughts are:

    1. Thank goodness I got an IUD a long time ago because while they have to offer birth control they have a bunch of weird insurance company loopholes to jump through so they’re not paying for it directly.

    2. Both the facilities and care are waaaaaaaay nicer in this tiny inner city pseudo-hospital with 3 units including the ER and psych than at the state university teaching hospital 15 blocks west that treated my psych patients like criminals on a unit full of asbestos and mold.

  • Actually it is. There’s not actually a nursing shortage if you look into the numbers, there’s just a shortage of nurses willing to get screamed at by delirious people while doing backbreaking work without backup or enough people to distribute that work among while getting paid pennies. If so many people weren’t leaving the field entirely due this issue (the chief complaint ALWAYS being under-staffing / low nurse-to-patient ratios, THEN pay), there would be plenty of nurses to go around. It always comes down to pay and ratios (which are inextricably intertwined) and everything else is fractions of percentages of the problem that get overemphasized so that the people siphoning money out of this system never have to address the elephant in the room. Don’t let them deflect you away from focusing on their greed. A bunch of nurses are also out there pushing themselves through degree mill nurse-practitioner schools to become wildly unsafe prescribers for the same reasons as those leaving entirely, which also reduces the bedside workforce.

  • Right now we’re just trying to keep the ANA from making functionally illegal to go on strike in the first place by making it our fault for “patient abandonment” if the hospital doesn’t hire (usually extremely expensive) travel nurses to cover strikes.

The way strikes work for nurses is that hospitals are essential to a community, so you have to give notice, then the hospital has to find temps to cover (again, I’m fine with this, I don’t consider them scabs, their wages alone are punishing the hospital, but this is also why they shouldn’t be capping travel salaries). The issue is they’re trying to make it so that it’s the responsibility of the nurses going on strike to find that coverage, or they get charged with abandoning the patients. They’re literally just trying to make it functionally illegal to even go on strike without ever saying those exact words.

They’re taking comments right now, let me find the link. Here’s the r/nursing post that person said it all better (I’ve been trying to get more hcw communities going over here but it’s slow going and feels like it’s only me sometimes. Here is a sample comment (but it’s written from a nurse perspective, it may need to be shuffled around into “concerned citizen” language) and here is the direct link to the survey. If one of you wants to draft a solid “concerned citizen statement” I’ll add that too.

Could also make a good post on c/medicine or c/antiwork but idk I’m still waking up and have a lot of unpacking from the move still to do this weekend. But it may actually help them to know people outside the Healthcare sector are starting to notice their bullshit. Or that Healthcare CEO money will still be too good, idk.

  • They have badge attachments now that beep and tell your supervisor if they don’t sense a nurse washing their hands or using hand sanitizer when they enter a room. I get the idea for how this could lower infection rates in hospitals but I wonder if maybe it’s not just more humane to just hire more nurses and encourage us to take time to do things correctly instead of essentially fitting us with a shock collar that does everything but the actual shock.

They’re doing shit like this and people still ask why they have to put up nets to catch people jumping off the parking garage like it’s some kind of mystery.

They also have little wand sensors that you have to go into a room and put up to a receiver for psychiatry to ensure we’re actually physically going into all patient rooms every fifteen minutes 24/7 even while they’re sleeping to make sure they’re not hanging themselves in there. Honestly sometimes it feels like we’re just making sure they want to hang themselves by the time they leave.
