Sad to see that he had no interest in actually selling the games. This is why a lot of people stay away from mobile gaming. Constant data mining and random gatchas dying mean people do not want to invest in a product that strings them along and can disappear at anytime.

We carry devices with us that are more powerful than the Switch, yet we’re here with this bullshit that mobile gaming is. It’s just sad how techno feudalism is destroying everything.

The worst part is that they do this because it works. Mobile gaming is just fundamentally broken and the only way to fix it is to fix psychology (which obviously won’t happen).

Banning gacha games would be a start.

I have no issue in purchasing some extra stuff, but no timed items or random stuff.

And I have to add to it… I mean buying stuff that matters. Not just skins or anything. More like a actual DLC with more story, new characters etc. Which add a new level of experience to the game

I agree. That’s just like buying a sequel, without having to download a second copy of the same game engine.

If any of the major publishers were smart they’d just make an emulator for phones and sell classic games on it like Nintendo does on its consoles.

I mainly use my phone to play psx and psp games. It’s amazing how well it works.

Most phones can run emulators up to gamecube or dreamcast. That’a impressive considering emulators aren’t always optimized.

Square Enix is hit and miss but have done some really good stuff in the past. The mobile version of Chrono Trigger is probably the definitive version among the ports (minus the newer translation)

Yup. I would totally buy mobile games if I could find any that don’t suck. Instead, my money goes to Steam and Nintendo because they actually make portable gaming products.

It’s amazing what a gameflex controller or a hdmi adaptor/console controller can do with a phone and gaming.

You can basically turn your phone into a steam deck or switch, only problem is the lack of games.

It’s like gaming companies almost want to see the market crash with all these bullshit things they are doing. Yet people keep buying into it.

Streamers will… devs don’t make money on little Timmy that is allowed a $2 purchase. They make money on streamers that “I BUY EVERYTHING IN GAME X!” (Shocked face)

Yeah, streamers and whales are their biggest target, but in this article TakeTwo is saying they’re going to target everyone else, meaning little Timmy’s $2.

I don’t understand the “whale” mentality, though I do kind of understand the streamer mentality since they’re making money by being a place where viewers can see all of that optional content.

I think the term they use is ‘whales’.

If 99% of their audience ignore them, they still make a bucket load of money because the 1% who can afford to spend the money, or have issues with self control more than make up for it.

I find I hear about these after playing on another platform. I just don’t look at mobile anymore because the market is filled with nonsense.

Apparently a few of the games I’ve really enjoyed have a mobile version, and sometimes it’s cheaper there, but I don’t even think to check.

Slay is such a genius game.

I burned out after 100%ing it and beating A20 on all chars, and haven’t been able to really play in a couple of years, but I got every penny of my investment back and more.

My son has it on his phone and he plays it waiting for toast to finish, at halftime of soccer games, in the car going somewhere…

Yeah I stopped for a few months after I finally got my Silent A20, but once it released for Android I picked it back up. It was the last achievement I needed for Eternal One. It feels great on a tablet as well.

Such a good game. I almost never played it just cause I irrationally didn’t like the name. Glad I picked it up.

Usually ones that come with an upfront cost, but yeah. There’s actually a lot that are pretty good, like Monument Valley 1+2, or Stardew Valley’s mobile port.

Here’s how to monetize 100%% of your playerbase :

Charge a one-time premium to have access to the game forever at a reasonable, region-adjusted price that the average worker can afford, and then fuck off.
